Hey and WELCOME to Fresh Berries and Fitness! I am Amanda, a 24-year old living in Franklinton, Louisiana. After high school, I moved to Baton Rouge to attend Louisiana State University. In May 2011, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and in August 2011 I luckily got a job teaching as a third grade teacher back home in Franklinton. I then married my best friend, Dustin, on June 2, 2012. We moved into a quaint little house after returning from our honeymoon, and we have been making it our own ever since.
I grew up as a traditional southern girl in a house of five kids. Growing up on a dairy farm, we ate plenty of fresh garden vegetables, however, loads of butter, salt, and plenty of fried foods took over many of our meals. I was always self conscious of my body, but I thought the way to fix that was to skip a meal here or there, or to choose some other unhealthy diet option.
It was not until my senior year in college, during student teaching, that I finally began to research clean, healthy eating. I went and purchased Tosca Reno’s, “The Eat Clean Diet, Stripped.” It definitely changed the way I thought of food. I began to eat clean and work out every day with my roommate’s P90X DVDs. I ended up losing close to 15 pounds. I instantly became obsessed with living a healthy life style. Unfortunately, I am human, and it wasn’t always easy. After I graduated, I moved back in with my parents while looking for a teaching position. While living there and starting my new career, I found tons of excuses to eat unhealthy and not work out. I was constantly exhausted because of this!
Luckily this did not faze Dustin, because he proposed to me in December of 2011. Hating slow-moving processes, we began to plan to have the wedding for the beginning of June. I knew I had to get back on track! So, I got out of the rut I was in and began to treat my body better.
I now eat clean, with the
rare occasional unhealthy option, and I work out 5-6 times a week. This summer, I actually began to work out with my sister-in-law and a few other girls. Doing this I began to include running into my routine, as well as, the INSANITY program. By body has definitely gotten much stronger from this. On February 24, I finished my first half marathon in 2 hours. It is still so amazing to say that. If it wasn’t for our workout group, I’m not sure if I would have ever had the guts to accomplish the things I have(half marathon and Shaun T:)). I definitely push myself because of them!
Because of my obsession with health, this summer I began to get into reading some health blogs. I have been hooked ever since. I read a few of my favorites every day. They helped me stay motivated and gave out great healthy tips. When reading one of these blogs I found out about, “The Happiness Project,” by Gretchen Rubin. In the book she publishes a blog to discuss her Happiness Project. I thought that I myself could begin a blog like all of these wonderful ladies before me.
So blogging is now my new and exciting hobby. I will be writing about my healthy life, including food, exercise, family, and my career. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
